Tenant Mailboxes Opened One After Another
Late at night, cameras inside a client’s apartment building recorded a person in a long dark coat working along a wall of tenant mailboxes. This mailbox theft caught on camera shows the person opening box after box and pulling items into a bag, then moving to a second bank of mailboxes near the entrance and doing the same.
Monitex Security’s monitoring team spotted the activity in real time and alerted police, according to the company. On camera, the person then heads out of the building, down the front steps and onto a snow-covered path.
Patrol cars arrive on the street, and the outdoor cameras show officers walking the person back along the path. Notes on screen in the video say police caught the suspect and checked the mail area for further damage, calling the theft attempt unsuccessful.
Mail theft often goes unnoticed until residents start asking where their letters went. Because operators were watching this apartment building live, police were on the way while the person was still close by.
